The paper presents a comparative methodological analysis of the structure and content of all twenty-seven sets of literacy coursebooks for teaching Bulgarian language and literature in Grades 1 to 4. All of them are approved by the Ministry of Education and Science in Bulgaria and subject to critical analysis. Emphasis is placed on highlighting texts in various literary genres, the presence of folklore works by both Bulgarian and foreign authors. The contents of all literacy coursebooks for the same grade are presented in tables so that they can be compared and contrasted. The educational content of all examined literacy coursebooks corresponds to the Bulgarian language and literature curriculum for each grade.
