The article examines the learning content for extracurricular reading instruction in primary education in Bulgaria. An analysis of the number and type of literary texts included in the section for extracurricular reading in literacy books is presented. Tables show the titles of all literary works for Grade 1–4 that support extracurricular reading classes. The number and type of works is presented, its genre affi liation, the nationality of author (Bulgarian or foreign work), the presence or absence of folktales, folklore, fairy tales, etc. The comparative analysis of the learning content in literacy textbooks for extracurricular reading instruction allows teachers to make informed choices and select works tailored to the specifi c educational needs of their students. Conclusions are formulated based on the analysis of literary works.
