The issue of prolonged sitting during daily activities and its relation to pain and spinal pathologies is very topical, especially among adolescents and young adults. The aim of the present study is a kinesiological analysis of postural control patterns in postures during classes at school. The study is based on a questionnaire and observation (screening) among 238 adolescents aged 16 to 18. The findings point to the idea that some portion of pathological spinal curvatures may be provoked by prolonged incorrect sitting postures. On the other hand, they touch on the development of the so-called “body schema” in the context of prolonged immobilization. The present study provides insight into the dimensions of the problem of incorrect sitting posture in the context of the educational system. It clarifies the understanding of “correct posture”, equipment ergonomics, and spinal kinesiology issues in daily activities.
