CAPABILITIES OF ATTAINING ECONOMIC LITERACY THROUGH THE SCHOLASTIC CONTENT IN HISTORY AND CIVILIZATIONS FOR 8th GRADE

Abstract

The objective of this article is to make clear how scholastic content in the subject history and civilizations in the 8th grade contributes to the formation of notions about economic life in the Modern Age as well as to the formation of economic literacy of the school students. Learning about the period from the end of 15th century until the beginning of 20th century gives the school students a chance to acquire some important economic concepts. The article examines, analyzes and compares the current schoolbooks and textbooks with regard to the above purpose. Any good examples are pointed out, which o the biggest extent contribute to the formation of the school students’ initial economic literacy which is an important part of the formation of their civic culture. Young people’s knowledge about economic life in the past can be useful for them with respect to their future successful inclusion in the economic and social life of the Bulgarian society.
