The book is a practical introduction to the concept of empathy, its measures and application in education. It is designed as a coursebook for university students but it is also appropriate for any reader who is interested in the subject of empathy and has advanced sufficiently in their language knowledge.
The book comprises four parts. Chapter one offers a brief review of the concept of empathy. Chapter two describes several scales for measuring the psychological constructs of empathy and locus of control as well as different teacher behaviour modes. Chapter three comprises two studies which exemplify the application of these scales in foreign language education research. Chapter four offers some practical cues and tasks which are aimed at those who want to better develop their empathy skills.
